 1.  Urban Scale Modelling of Campus Buildings using VirtualPULSE

Virtual PULSE development team will present their new web-based, urban scale modeling tool, named “Virtual PULSE”. The presenters will elaborate details of the model creation with a follow up demonstration of Virtual PULSE for different urban neighborhoods. Virtual PULSE is accessible via:

 2.  Occupant Impact on Building Energy Consumption and Improvement of Building Energy Simulation with Occupant Information

Speaker: Yang-Seon Kim

Research from a dozen case studies in commercial buildings suggests that 10 – 40% of energy can be saved if the occupancy (presence/absence) is factored into the building operation. Occupant information is important to reduce the gap between actual building energy consumption and estimated energy consumption. This study quantified the impact of occupancy rates for actual commercial building energy consumption with measured data. Additionally, it found occupancy rates have a higher correlation with plug-load consumption than with total electricity consumption. This study shows a simplified methodology to use the plug-load consumption as an indicator for occupancy rates in building energy models.
